Group Is Host to Fathers of Members and Other Guests at Supper Monday evening, October 23, was observed as “Father’s Night” by the T. C. U. Club as they played host to their fathers and guests. Those whose fathers could not attend invited a guest to act as a father. A hamburger dinner, buffet style, preceded the program, the chief feature of which was a talk by Raymond Chatham who gave a brief history of the club. Mr. Reginald Harris, of Roxboro, president of the Roxboro Cotton Mills, was originally scheduled to speak, but was unable to attend. The guests were welcomed by Clyde Cothren, president of the club, Lowell Smithey, program chairman, and C. J. Hyslup, club adviser. A response on behalf of the fathers present was given by Mr. James Burcham, and Mr. Paul Gwyn gave a reply on be half of the “acting” fathers. The members of the club were intro duced by Red Eller. Near the end of the meeting the sixty-five persons attending enjoyed an open forum in which many interesting and humorous experiences were given by the fathers and other guests. NEAVES IS HOST AT STAG DINNER General Supt. Entertains 150 Guests at Picnic Grounds in Westover Heights Mr. W. A. Neaves, general su perintendent, of Chatham Man ufacturing Company, entertained at a stag dinner at his private picnic ground in Westover Heights Tuesday evening. The guest list of 150 included Mr. Thurmond Chatham, president of the Company, Mr. A. L. Butler, vice-president and secretary, and Mr. R. W. Harris, superintendent of the Winston plant, overseers of both Elkin and Winston plants, and the members of the Office forces of the company. String music was furnished during the evening by a band composed of employees of the Elkin plant. A delicious picnic dinner was served. America consumes more than 1.500,000,000 “hot dogs” annual ly. Prize-Winning Photos 4 L Above are the two first prize winners in the recent photo con test sponsored by the T. C. U. Club. The top photograph was made by Jake Brown and entered in the animate class. The lower photo was by Tom Roth, winning top honors in the inanimate class. AWARDS MADE IN PHOTO CONTEST About 80 Pictures Entered with Majority Exceptionally Good; Prizes Given Winners of the T. C. U. Club Photo Contest as announced by the contest committee are as fol lows: In the animate class, first prize was won by Mr. Jake Brown and second prize was won by Mr. Paul Eidson. Honorable mention v/ent to Mr. Tom Roth and to Mr. Thurmond Chatham. In the inanimate class, first prize was won by Mr. Tom Roth and sec ond prize was won by Mi\ Jake Brown. Honorable mention went to Mr. Tom Roth and to Mr. Hugh Salmons. First place winners were award ed $3.00 each and second place winners were awarded $2.00 each. About 80 pictures were entered in the contest. Judges and critics stated that the pictures were ex ceptionally good. Judges for the contest were: Mrs. Jack Caudle, Mr. Alan Browning, and Mr. Walter Bur- giss. ENTERTAINS AT DINNER, DANCE T. C. U. Club Honors Wives and Guests of Members at Dinner Party October 7 th Fifty persons attended a din ner party given at the clubhouse cn Saturday night, October 7, by the T. C. U. Club in honor of its members, their wives and guests. A “radio program,” a skit pok ing good-natured fun at the guests, was broadcast by Mr. C. J. Hyslup, club adviser, as the feature entertainment of the dinner party. Lowell Smithey, program chair man, who with Mr. Hyslup and others arranged the skit, presided over the meeting which was held at 7:30 p.m. The dinner guests and many invited guests enjoyed a dance which followed the dinner meet ing. Members and guests attending the dinner party were: Theodore Brown, Russell Bur cham, Frances Childress, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cothren, Red Eller, Earl Pardue, Mary Eliza beth Allen, Clay Felts, EVelyn Arnold, Gene Hall, Claudia Aus- (Continued on Page Eight)
